All close contact (less than 6 feet) with an infected person can expose you to\u00a0coronavirus, the virus that causes COVID-19,\u00a0whether you’re engaged in sexual activity or not.<\/p>\n
The virus spreads through respiratory droplets released when someone with the virus coughs, sneezes, talks or sings. These droplets can be inhaled or land in the mouth or nose of a person nearby. So it stands to reason that coming into contact with a person’s saliva through kissing or other sexual activities could expose you to the virus. People who have\u00a0COVID-19\u00a0could also spread respiratory droplets onto their skin and personal belongings. A sexual partner could get the virus by touching these surfaces and then touching his or her mouth, nose or eyes. In addition, the\u00a0COVID-19\u00a0virus can spread through contact with feces. It’s possible that you could get the\u00a0COVID-19\u00a0virus from sexual activities that expose you to fecal matter.<\/p>\n
While there’s currently no evidence coronavirus is transmitted through semen or vaginal fluids, but the virus has been detected in the semen<\/a> of men who have or are recovering from the virus. More research is needed to determine if COVID-19 can be transmitted sexually.<\/p>\n
