\n<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n


\nBlack Millennials might still be suffering from the pop lock and drop it era, but random knee pain\u00a0isn\u2019t\u00a0the only challenge\u00a0they\u2019re\u00a0facing. Healthcare firms are meeting the moment by including hip-hop and R&B in their consumer marketing efforts.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As millennials age, their vast\u00a0<\/span>healthcare concerns<\/span><\/a>\u00a0are moving to the forefront of the healthcare industry priority list. That means integrating messaging that will speak to them directly.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The music that once signaled a rebellious youth of bar hopping and bottle service is now helping providers court a generation of adults in need of information and interventions to address\u00a0their\u00a0<\/span>collective issues<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Music As\u00a0a\u00a0Means\u00a0of\u00a0Getting Attention\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

Research shows that tapping into cultural competency works when trying to reach specific audiences. \u201cThe importance of cultural competency, including culturally and linguistically appropriate resources and tools, cannot be overstated or overemphasized,\u201d according to the\u00a0<\/span>Centers for Disease Control (CDC)<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Unlike a generic jingle, a familiar jam can stop you in your tracks. It can reconnect you to a moment from your past. Twisting around familiar beats isn\u2019t the only way to have an impact.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Speaking the language of music can help create connections, too. <\/span>We Are Ill\u00a0<\/span><\/a>founder Victoria named her organization, designed to connect Black women with chronic illness, after the classic\u00a0Nas\u00a0album Illmatic.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

New music\u00a0can have an impact as well. The FDA turned to developing\u00a0<\/span>original hip-hop songs<\/span><\/a>\u00a0to convince young people not to smoke. Gilead turned to rapper and podcaster Big Loon to help spread the message about their efforts to promote safer sex. Power to the Patients turned to Busta Rhymes, Fat Joe, Method Man, Rick Ross, Chuck D, and French Montana to promote their arguments for\u00a0<\/span>transparency in healthcare pricing<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Fighting HIV With TLC<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

TLC, a group that broke barriers by getting a generation to talk frankly about sex, has had their hit \u201cCreep\u201d reinterpreted for Gilead to promote\u00a0PrEP.\u00a0Original and core group member Tionne ‘T-Boz’ Watkins performed the healthcare-centered rendition.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“In the 90s, we used our platform to speak\u00a0truth\u00a0and empower people to love themselves. That mission\u00a0hasn’t\u00a0changed,” Watkins told\u00a0<\/span>People<\/span><\/i><\/a>\u00a0in November.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBlack women in the United States are disproportionately affected by human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and are less likely to be represented among HIV clinical research participants relative to their cumulative HIV burden,\u201d according to\u00a0<\/span>Women’s Health<\/span><\/i><\/a>. This makes TLC the perfect track to speak to an audience that needs to be informed about their options for protecting themselves.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Fighting Colon Cancer\u00a0With\u00a0Lil\u2019 Jon\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

Lil\u2019 Jon has transcended the\u00a0Nuvo\u00a0guzzling and the pill popping of the\u00a0crunk\u00a0era. The snap music pioneer converted his hit \u201cGet Low\u201d into a track to promote Cologuard, a screening device for colon cancer.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe distribution of CRC is not even across U.S. subpopulations; there is marked difference in CRC incidence, cancer stage, and cancer mortality by race and ethnicity.\u00a0In particular, Black\u00a0Americans show the highest\u00a0incidence, and\u00a0have the highest mortality among major U.S. racial and ethnic groups,\u201d according to the\u00a0<\/span>Journal of Advances in Cancer Research<\/span><\/i><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0<\/span>American Cancer Society<\/span><\/a>\u00a0has highlighted the rise in colorectal cancer in people under the age of 55.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Lil\u2019 Jon shared why he agreed to do the campaign in a 2024 interview with\u00a0<\/span>Black Health Matters.<\/span><\/i>\u00a0\u201cIt just makes it easier to palette this subject because\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0funny because the song is called \u2018Get Low #2,\u2019 and you\u00a0have to\u00a0take a #2 to do the colon cancer screen with the Cologuard kit.\u00a0So\u00a0I thought it was\u00a0pretty hilarious,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

He\u2019s\u00a0no slouch when it comes to promoting mental health either. He released an album for\u00a0<\/span>meditation<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Raising Eczema Awareness with Mary J Blige\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

Mary J. Blige owned the early 90s with \u201cReal Love.\u201d The kids who grew up singing the classic on their way to elementary school are primed to listen to the remixed version for EBGLYSS, a medication developed to fight eczema, also known as atopic dermatitis.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0<\/span>Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology<\/span><\/i><\/a>\u00a0reports that \u201cBlack people in the US experience greater atopic dermatitis (AD) prevalence, severity, and persistence when compared to White people.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Eczema presents differently in Black people making it more important that they be informed about the symptoms of the condition.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Fighting Vaccine Misinformation\u00a0with\u00a0Juvenile<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

Taking over for the 99 and the 2000 is like a millennial mating call. It flips a switch in the millennial brain flooding it with memories of when it was time to \u201cBack That Thang Up\u201d in a club that\u00a0didn\u2019t\u00a0take Apple Pay or put a time limit on sections,\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This made it the perfect track to match the moment when anti-vaccine information was flooding the internet. Juvenile released<\/span>\u00a0\u201cVax That Thang Up\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/a>to promote the COVID-19 vaccine.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

He partnered with Mannie Fresh and Mia X on the\u00a0track\u00a0giving it an even stronger NOLA flavor.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
