Novartis\u2019 \u201cRelax, It\u2019s a Blood Test<\/a>\u201d campaign uses familiar tight ends to talk about prostate cancer<\/a> screening in a way that feels approachable instead of intimidating.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a shift from the usual tone of health messaging, and it lands at a time when many men still avoid the topic entirely. For former Titans tight end Delanie Walker and longtime Chiefs star Tony Gonzalez, the message feels personal. Both joined the campaign with a sense of responsibility shaped by their own experiences and the people they care about.<\/p>\n

Delanie Walker Understands What\u2019s at Stake<\/h2>\n

Delanie Walker joined the campaign shortly after losing a family member to prostate cancer. The timing made the invitation feel heavier than a typical partnership.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a no-brainer,\u201d he said. \u201cSomething had just happened in my family, and now I can spread a message that might help someone catch it earlier.\u201d<\/p>\n

Before filming, Walker didn\u2019t know a blood test could be used for screening. He assumed the exam always involved a more invasive examination that many men avoid. Learning about the blood test changed how he talks about screening with the people around him.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had no idea you could take a blood test to get screened,\u201d he said. \u201cWe can relax, because it\u2019s a blood test.\u201d<\/p>\n

Walker believes athletes can help open the door to conversations men usually sidestep.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want people to understand we\u2019re just like them,\u201d he said. He also knows how prostate cancer affects Black men at higher rates. \u201cYou\u2019re not counted out,\u201d he said. \u201cIf you are forty and up, getting screened can help with early detection.\u201d<\/p>\n

Walker explained why humor feels right for this message. The pun on \u201ctight end\u201d gives men permission to laugh before they listen, and it takes the edge off. It turns a tense topic into something people can discuss. \u201cYou kind of walk into that doctor’s room tight,\u201d he said. \u201cWe\u2019re telling you that you don\u2019t have to do that. You can relax. It\u2019s just a blood test.\u201d<\/p>\n
